I made some medicine today.

  • 12 oz buds to 1L of food grade ethyl alcohol (190 proof)
  • frozen, split up into 5 quart jars
  • soaked for 5 minutes in the freezer, agitated at 2 minutes, strained. x5
  • second run/rinse/agitate with fresh alcohol x5
  • left frozen tincture in two jars overnight.
  • combined and
  • strained through Büchner funnel w/ vacuum
  • poured into Pyrex pie plates
  • left to evaporate slightly, in front of fans
  • decanted into 2oz amber dropper bottles
1 hour ago, sampled half a dropper's worth.
Good to GO! or rather, stay in and chill.
not really a workday breakfast treat,

after dinner, before bed!
meh, you do you.

I really like the idea of pyrex pie plates, as that gives you much more evaporation surface area. Thanks for the idea!

tincture, in general, is meant to be dropped into juice or water (or heaven forfend!, a cocktail (see: bitters). I did that this morning, 4 drops in water.

I noticed a slight alteration in mood and perception, I can't remember if I drank that before or after my mid morning nap. the memory of the nap has faded, too. I need another nap. my tolerance is high and if randomly polled, chances are I am, too.

it's certainly better tasting than the green dragon I made the last time I had excessive material many moons past.

I think the infused oil I had made is slower acting and the effects more protracted than the tincture, however, I need to do more "testing".

I will try binding the alcohol tincture into glycerin. I read a @Graywolf post from many years ago about glycerin (fantastic, sir!) and in it there was a response mentioning of doing just this thing and if I remember right (or am I using my kitchen science mind?), it involves combining the tincture to glycerin at a rate of 1:3 in a bain-marie just above the boiling point of alcohol to evaporate off, leaving only the glycerin infusion. sounds like solid procedure. it wouldn't get hot enough to breakdown the good stuff.

Thoughts? Experiences? Bueller?

I've made quite a few alcohol based tinctures, but never a glycerin version. I'm really curious about that one for sure...

I have a quart jar stuffed about full of various buds and trim and everclear sitting in the freezer getting random shakes when I remember..

I had thought about doing glycerin extractions when I was growing 20 years ago, always looking for fun things to do with the 'extras' but did not really have easy access to food grade glycerin.. now with 'zon you can get about whatever you want delivered in a day or three..

I have also thought about getting a very small still, and processing the everclear back through a still to recover as much of the liquid as possible

heck ya! I've thought about a countertop still as well to reclaim the ethanol, also. alas, I already have too many rarely used countertop gadgets - and minimal countertop. there are conversion plans for use with a pressure cooker.....personally, I would get the glassware for a refractory distiller though if I'm going that route. scratch all that, Home Depot sells a stove top distiller for under a hundred wtf.

distiller kit

in the state I'm in, we need a permit to buy Everclear, or we did when I last checked. I get the pure stuff online from Lab Alley who also have glycerin and other fun stuff for things like A/B extractions. I'll wait for a sale & stock up to save $.

and I saw there was veg glycerin, in small quantities, at my local crunchy meets bougie grocer, not owned by the zon, in the "beauty" ahem personal care section. @LoboGrow , I'm gonna get some and do the deed (alcohol to glycerine conversionl, I think it'll be straightforward. shall report back

Awesome, looking forward to what you discover....

Did you decarb the buds?

I figured that was implied -- good call, not everyone will know.

that is the primary reason homemade eddy's "don't work", for the new kids in back.

soon after posting I thought about editing it. I then promptly forgot.
Yeah, I follow a page on Facebook that's about edibles, and there's a lot of people on there saying they don't need to decarb, lol. I used to try to set them straight, but I got tired of arguing with dumbasses. Now I just think to myself "enjoy your mids edibles" 🤣🤣
I looked into a still a while back, as I was just using an old coffee pot to evaporate the alcohol off, and I didn't want to have to keep buying alcohol. That one you posted looks promising.
