Strawberry fields FF soil success

Heard a lot of crap about strawberry fields fox farm soil. So I had to give it a try. I only vegged in it and then transferred to supersoil outside. Never did I ph my Los Angeles city tap water just let it sit in bucket for a few days then use it straight 7.2-7.4 and I’ve had great success under t5 lights. Straight soil with a first shot of soluble seaweed extract at seeding stage then would add bat guano and a shot of azomite once growth would get going. All top dress except soluble seaweed extract that would be drench at seedling then foliar once a week. Drench when transplant. My second crop so far

I think the problem with fox farms is consistency. Ive heard you guys out on the west coast get a completely different product, im pretty sure due to increased demand that they’re outsourcing production to regional vendors. Thats s personal assumption, take that with a grain of salt. Ive seen significant decline in the mid-Atlantic in the last few years alone. Still good enough to veg in, and imho still much better than other widely available options you see in chain stores.

I used to buy right from the warehouse in Arcata. Over the years fox farm got bad. Bugs, sticks, clumps of additives ect. I think they may have just sold out. I switched to royal gold kings mix and it’s been the best soil I’ve ever used.
Reason for trying the strawberry fields is I couldn’t find one search that had nice plants all were yellow and people complaining so I had to give it a try at 15$ a bag and I honestly like it. Better than the ocean forest. From back in the day with Whitney farms my thoughts were if I can lay my head on it and take a knap my roots will love it. And ocean forest is just too rough for me. But it does work super soil with the aid of some coco 1:1 ratio on bags.

I have seen it but not in a store and I can’t pay for shipping soil. Really don’t want to pay more than 20$ a bag. Just doesn’t seem rite and I won’t condone. It’s does sound good and has called my name. Gonna mix up a batch of promix probably next round and let some sit and cook for a few months to see the productivity. Maybe a cover crop in it. See if it gets better the longer it sits. Just getting back into orgánics really since the market for cash cropping is over and I’m older, definitely don’t have a circle anymore. Time to perfect organics teas and top dress. Going good so far. One reason why I’m here to listen and soak up do’s and dont’s

Might not change your mind, it's still a little pricey. But, if you have an ace hardware nearby, you can order stonington blend from them. I think around 36/1.5cu f

Stonington blend is good stuff, but seems wet out of the bag and yes, fungus gnats. We see it go on sale here in the spring for like $25/1.5 cu ft. But I'm near Maine, so not paying high shipping prices....

The only gripe I've heard is the drainage of Strawberry Fields. But that's easily fixed with some perlite or pumice.
It’s doesn’t drain like straight coco but it does have coco in it and drains fairly well unless you let the top dry out completely like all sphagnum that gets too dry. Works very well with no phing water 7.2-7.4 city tap water. Sure the top dress guano helped with that though. That’s why I’m liking it the ease of use.
